What's out there? ...
After sorting out what type of seaplane suits your needs, you now need to know what's available out there. Over the years many aircraft have been floated. Listing which goes with what and who makes what, would take too long and be way boring. But here's a thumbnail sketch of how it works: Piper, Cessna and Maule have traditionally been the "big three" of seaplanes. Of these 3, only Maule has been in steady production in recent years.. (Check them out--they're a neat, family-owned company that makes a real sky-streaker of an airplane). So shopping for a seaplane or an airplane to put on floats most likely will involve the used market. Many other aircraft have been floated over the years including Taylorcraft, Champion, Helio, Artic Tern, Luscombe, Stinson, and Waco.
A happy recent development in seaplaning is the growth in experimental aircraft being floated. Aqua sells floats in kit form for non-certified home-builts like Avid's Magnum and Bandit. We will also build them for you if you're not the riveting type. (go to kit-built floats for info)
